After 14.44 miles in crazy humidity... That's my "I now understand why people don't like doing distance in the summer humidity" face
Well, it's been a few weeks again since I've posted, but I figured that I would catch you all up on how marathon training is going...
This feels so long ago that I'm not sure how well I can recap it.
Speed workout/Tempo Run: I got both of these in with pretty much ease.
Long run: 15 miles felt hard, especially on a Tuesday morning before work. But now looking back at it, it really doesn't seem that bad considering I've now plowed through 20 miles and that was hard.
This week's workouts kicked my butt, although I didn't do all three workouts.
Speed workout: I'm definitely getting stronger with these, although I know that if I wasn't on the treadmill, I probably wouldn't be pushing myself as hard as I am. I skipped this workout though. It's okay to miss a workout, right?
Tempo Run: I used to dread these, but I've been renting movies/TV shows on my iPad to make them go by faster. I also do these on the treadmill to force myself to keep the pace.
Long Run: Holy f*$#! Scheduled for 20 miles and completed 20 miles. This run kicked my butt and had me dreading my next 20 miler. You don't realize how much of a mental game it is, at least for me, until you look back on the number of hours you're running in a row. I cried at mile 15, sobbed actually, felt amazing at mile 17, then walked in the door crying again. Running that far is hard. This is not a distance for the faint of heart.
My new friend, MH, and I! She's a marathoner too, and in celebration of M's birthday we took tequila shots. I also celebrated the fact that I ran 20 effing miles.
Speed workouts: Another good speed workout.
Tempo Run: I watched a movie again, which helped. Plus I love doing a tempo run to kick off my Friday night.
Long Run: I was supposed to run 18, but I ran the 14.2 Mile Manhattan Training Run instead. Even though it was small, somewhat disorganized, super hot/humid and not enough water stops, I thought it was pretty cool running the length of Manhattan.
Finish of the 14.2 Mile Manhattan Training Run
Speed workout: Skipped this again... I don't know why I'm slacking on these because they are normally my favorite workouts.
Tempo Run: Short and sweet with only 5 miles, but I'm glad I did it. Sometimes a speedy run is better than no run at all.
Long Run: Another 20 miles and a much more confident version of my distance running self. I think turning off the music and running while my dad biked with me for 6 miles of hills helped. There's something nice about spending time with your dad while running a ridiculous amount of miles. I have to admit that I'm looking forward to this week's long run of 13.
And that's all of my running updates for now. I have so many other things to catch you all up on. And I am making it my goal to finally post all of the photos from L&T's wedding. I loved taking them, especially with the beautiful scenery, but I'm also glad that I got to party too! More soon.
