Photography Help!

So Santa a.k.a. my amazing parents are bringing me a brand, spanking new DSLR camera for Christmas and my birthday.

Hello new Canon T3i! Since it was decided that this will be waiting for me under the tree, I've literally been reading and reading and reading all about DSLR cameras. A little fun fact that none of you know is that I was really big into photography in high school and even developed my own film.

I know a lot of you have these wonderful cameras and had to start somewhere in this digital SLR world, so do any of you have any great advice or tutorials for me? I know there are tons out there, but I'm definitely overwhelmed right now. I won't be able do too much until I have the camera in my hand, but any suggestions on reading would be really helpful!

Also, what camera bags do you all have use? Any cute ones?

Yayyy! How funny I finally pulled the trigger myself and bought the same exact camera, T3i and called it my Christmas/Birthday gift to myself. I've been doing the same! I will be hoping commenters give good advice here! Pinterest has amazing photography DSLR tutorials as well. I have no experience at all! haha... and very excited that you are coming to Austin soon!!!!!

I got the exact same camera last year for Christmas! I absolutely love it.

I bought the manual to go with it ($30) follow a ton of photography blogs that are super helpful - see below.

After a few months of learning with the kit lens, I also got the 50mm/1.8 lens ($100) - takes amazing pictures of people! Santa is bringing me a zoom lens this year :)

My most helpful post at first (even now), the DSLR basics - http://www.kevinandamanda.com/whatsnew/tutorials/photography-tutorial-a-quick-guide-to-understanding-your-digital-slr-camera.html#

Other Beginner Tutorials - http://thepioneerwoman.com/photography/

Specific Techniques - http://www.iheartfaces.com/

I follow a ton of other photography blogs but those are my favs! Most of all just take a TON of pictures and you'll learn so much from trial & error. Good luck and enjoy!!

Best tutorials I've ever spent my money on are from Photography Concentrate. Rob and Lauren are awesome at explaining everything. You'll be shooting in Manual and taking FULL control over your camera before you know it!

There Extremely Essentail Camera Skills tutorial makes everything fun and easy to understand! They also have a bunch of free stuff too! Have fun learning :)

Will has a fancy {older} camera that he gave me to learn on, but I'm basically scared of all those buttons. I need to tackle it!

You should get the 50mm f/1.4 lens. The 50mm f/1.8 is cheaper, and basically really similar, except the apeture is different.

Cute bags? Try Kelly Moore, JoTotes, or TheIt
