Cookies and Blood {Weekend Recap}

Happy Monday friends! It's definitely very warm here today, like feels like spring warm, so I'm not feeling very holiday-esque except for the fact that I've been listening to Christmas music. Anyways, here's a little recap of our weekend.

Friday, we had a very low key evening. M made us a tasty recipe for quinoa burgers for dinner, then we watched Say Yes to the Dress and other random stuff.

Saturday, I was up at 5:30AM to catch a train to go run the NYRR Jingle Bell Jog. This was my first race post-injury, yet the last race of the year. I ran the 4 miles in 36:57 (aka 9:15 average pace), which is much faster than I thought considering I have just been getting back into the groove of running.
pre-race...yes, I ran with my neon jacket tied around my waist

After the race, I headed back to Grand Central to meet up with BSK and her husband. I always get a bundle of nerves right before meeting someone new, but it was like we had just not seen each other in a long time. BSK and I became blog friends early on. I think she was actually one of the first people that I started to text with, so it was cool to finally meet in person after almost 2 years. We laughed and chatted, took pictures, then said goodbye. I really hope that I can go down to Florida to visit her and her hubby!

The rest of Saturday was spent Christmas shopping, but not buying anything, then date night followed by Finding Nemo in 3D. I was falling asleep on the couch though so we just went to bed.

Sunday was pretty typical for us. We took Louie to play at the beach in the rain, helped my Dad and uncle with yard work, grocery shopped then I baked two different batches of cookies and M cooked dinner. We finished the day watching the Giants win, only to hit a bloody bump in the evening.
My happy face breakfast on Sunday

See, Louie doesn't like to get his nails clipped....at all. So we kind of have to sneak attack when clipping them. Unfortunately, I clipped too short and got the quick. Cue blood everywhere. It wasn't an easy evening after that because I felt so guilty for cutting it too short, but there's nothing we can do now except wait for it to heal.

And that was the weekend. Overall, I would say that it was a really good weekend. How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun?

oh clipping dog nails is the worst! Jon does Ernies and occasionally draws blood...best advice is to put some flour on the end to stop the bleeding! yummy cookies!

My hubs did that to our dog too! Literally blood everywhere. & a yelping dog every time she walked. Poor dog & poor doggy daddy!!

Oh our dogs do not like it either! My husband does Molly, and she cries like bloody murder. I usually do Teddy's...and his are hard b/c they are black! We've cut them too short before too :( We've used Nuskin which is something you can put on blisters on humans...but it works pretty good too to seal up the cut so you can try that if it happens again. So glad your race went great!

Yikes! I haven't tried to cut Melvin's yet for that very reason. I guess I have to eventually. Fun weekend other than that though!!!

my dog has black nails so it's impossible to get it right. luckily, she's small so you can hold her down while clipping them.

those cookies look so good!

Way to go on your run!! I'm super impressed! I wanted to do a jingle bell jog here, but my darn job got in the way. Maybe next year! :)

Yay!!! So happy you were able to run a race again. I've always been terrified to trim Riley's toenails because I've been afraid of doing that. His stay pretty short anyway from walking on the sidewalk. Love the smiley face breakfast.

I was going to go ice skating on saturday, but the crowds made think twice.

Congrats on your run!!

Awww, poor guy. I'm chicken and we take M to Petco, it's like $10 (sometimes $7.50 with a coupon). I've heard a drummel tool is actually best.

eeewwwww! What do they call that the quip or something similar.
Hope everyone is healing okay after an eventful weekend.

Congrats on the race pace!! I am SO slow - I can't even run that fast on my best day, for just one mile! Ha.

And poor Louie. Clipping nails is the worst. Actually, I don't know that for sure - I am so terrified that I've never done it myself and make my husband do it. Pet stores sell styptic powder that you can put on it to stop the bleeding and help it heal faster. Luckily we've never had to use it, but he keeps it close by during clippings just in case!

Aww poor pup! Oreo won't let us trim his nails. He won't let groomers do it either. Or the vet. He must have had a REALLY bad nail clipping experience at some point before we got him. Anyway, he has to be given sedatives in order to have his nails trimmed, but I hate it so he really only has them done once or twice a year. The rest of the time I just make sure to walk him on plenty of pavement, haha!

On the bright side, your cookies look great! :)

That guy in the green shirt on the left-hand margin of the second photo looks really happy. I think you may have been photobombed by Buddy the Elf!

Aww I feel worse for you than Louis because he's forgotten all about it, but I know the guilt that you feel! I am so happy that Weiser's nails have kept short from our walks and the pavement shaving them down. I don't want to have to cut them myself!
