If Your Boss Read Your Blog...

If your boss read your blog, would you change how you write? Would you sensor your posts? Would you filter yourself?

If your boss read your blog, would you change your content? Would you remove your blog? Would it make a difference?

What's provoking this post? My boss reads my blog. (Hi A!) And I've been reflecting about this throughout the week. Last Monday morning started off with her and I chatting about mister Louie and M's photos on the blog. She also follows me on Twitter, so she knew that I painted my nails grey and sparkly.

And with a tiny onset of panic, followed by thinking how silly I am, I realized that my mom reads my blog too (Hi Mom!). There's really no harm done with what I write and put out on the Internet. This blog is about my personal life, and when I wrote about starting my new job, I emphasized how much I don't change who I am for this blog.

I don't share every last detail of my life on here, but who really wants to read that anyways? And now that I've mentally answered the above questions, I'm posing those questions to you!

If your boss read your blog, would you change anything?

I'm fairly sure my boss reads my blog too! Although I didn't give him the link ... haha :)

My boss reads my blog (to my dismay). But since I don't talk about work or coworkers I don't really sensor it. I kind of wish he didn't read it though!

I found out that my second line manager has been reading my blog for over a year without my knowledge, I think spying is a better word for it, as she is known to do that to her employees. I obviously did not share the link with her, but none the less she got it. 99.9% of the things that I post I do not mind anyone, even my boss reading about. However I feel that I've had to sensor a lot of my personal feelings and have refrained from posting them on my own personal blog which I find disappointing.

AND the ONE time in 3+ years of writing on my blog I posted my HONEST feelings about a difficult time I am going through at work, I got a phone call from my manager telling me that my second line manager was reading my blog and had shared it with her as well, which was totally inappropriate as I did not do anything wrong or violate any work policies.

So I think unfortunately its a sad reality that some bosses may try to use what you write on your blog against you and it has ultimately forced me to sensor my blog in ways that I would prefer not to and has prevented me from being able to write about my true feelings.

My bosses have always read my blog so I know what you mean. It doesn't bother me one bit! :)

None of mine have ever read my blog. My previous job would have probably have not liked it, because they would think it is "inappropriate" (even though I NEVER posted about work). I know they would have done this, because a girl that worked there was a published author and they talked to her about her books (and some of them were under a pen name). My current job, I don't think they would really care. I work with like 99% of men though.

I wouldn't care if my boss or coworkers read my blog, but I prefer to keep my work life and personal life as separate as possible. That said, I don't think it would change anything I blog about, because I don't really blog about work much unless it involves traveling and fun stuff. Although, I probably wouldn't post anything during the day while I'm at work!! ;)

Yikes, this is a hard one for me. I never change who I am for anyone. Like you said- I don't post every aspect of my life on here but I think the blog world is SO different if you're not in it. Does that make sense? No one understands the OOTD posts, they prob think you're just being vain. Or the product talk. But then again it's my blog and I've never changed what I talk about no matter who I found out was reading it! Now twitter is different. Mine is public but I am always afraid certain people will find it. Even though it's no big deal and it's just my random daily thoughts haha

I find it is a difficult balance: my boss is my principal and I wouldn't want him to think I don't enjoy teaching just bc I don't enjoy Alaska. There's a difference! So I'm glad he doesn't read it but I know some of my co-workers do. And my mom. So I try not to go completely overboard ("completely" being the key word).

I don't think I would change what I write on my posts because I pretty much censor anyways and don't feel like sharing every bad day or little thing on the blog.

No I would not change my posts but I would probably get a lot of flack for what I write because we are very different. But it boils down to this... my blog is my expression of myself and if someone doesn't like to read it then they don't have to, simple as that.

Well, I wouldn't necessarily change anything I write about because like you, I don't write about every little detail in my life. BUT I def wouldn't post as much as I do from work haha I think that's the part that would get me in trouble. To be fair, I do get all my work done!

I don't think I would change anything, after all it is your own personal world.

It's awkward bc I know a lot of my coworkers watched our House Hunters episode and my blog was shown a bunch so I dont know if they read it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my bosses don't know that I have a blog. I have no idea about that side of me. but I definitely don't talk about my job or anything like that on my blog since I don't think it's fitting. I think they'd be surprised to know that I've been published in a magazine!

My old one knew of it but I didn't give him the exact details.

My initial reaction is major freak out mode! I don't post about work, or my office, or my coworkers, but it would still be very weird for me. I mean, I keep my blog pretty removed from the rest of my life- I don't have a link on my Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. The only place it's linked to me is through GoodReads, and I've considered taking it off of there! I only have told 2 people IRL that I blog at all. I'm not sure I would remove my blog, because I wouldn't want to lose all of my thoughts and memories, etc., but I might at least change the address!

I don't my bosses would be too interested in reading my blog. It's nothing amazing.

That being said, I'm not taking any risks and am doing my best to make sure barely anyone I know in real life finds my blog. :P

I wouldn't change anything if my boss read my blog. I don't think he would be interested ha but I write what I think and I write who I am, so there's nothing to change!

I wouldn't change a thing about my blog. Like you, I don't have to change myself and I don't particularly want to hide who I am either.
