In what? Oh that's right, the 2012 ING New York City Marathon! My dreams are finally coming true! Let's rewind...
Ever since I was a little girl, I would plant myself in front of the TV on that annual Sunday morning to watch as thousands of runners pounded the streets of the best city in the world. And having been a runner for the majority of my life, I always dreamed of becoming one of the many finishers. But it wasn't until after college graduation that I began to even consider taking the steps towards becoming a marathoner.
I had flip-flopped between doing NYRR's 9plus1 Program, but bit the bullet last November and committed myself. I've run five qualifying races to date and am signed up for two more already. Even though, I'm in for 2012, I'm going to finish out the 9plus1 to guarantee myself for 2013. Hey, maybe I'll want to run it twice?
The mix of emotions that I felt, and still feel, overwhelm me. Along with excitement came the desire to curl up under my desk and hide. I mean, what am I thinking wanting to run 26.2 miles in a row?! But if my friends who run multiple marathons can do it, then I can too. Right? Right.
So now, with four half marathons under my belt, I feel I have the motivation, dedication, determination, and commitment to run a full marathon. I don't know if I'll be a multi-marathoner, but just running one might be enough to satisfy my palate. Then, hopefully, my crazy side will lighten up and stick to races of 13.1 miles or less.
