When I saw the listing for this race, I knew I had to sign up. Unfortunately, when I was only four years old, my grandma (mom's mom) passed away of Colon Cancer. Even though I was so little, I still have fond memories of her and knew that she loved me with all of her heart.
Now back to the race, I went into it thinking: run hard. Run this for her. Run this for me. And push yourself. Well, I did just that. My splits were a little all over the place - 8:17, 7:55, 8:25, and 7:32 - but I'm going to blame those on the hills. Right? Right. In the end, I broke my personal record!!! There's something so thrilling about going out on a race to PR, and then actually doing it. So my final time was 32:17! Can you tell I'm overjoyed?
I ran my first 4 miler in February, and this one was my third and best so far. Maybe it was the warmer weather, maybe it was knowing that the love of my life was waiting for me at the end, maybe it was because I was running for someone I love and miss, but no matter what the reason, it was a great race.
Have you ever ran a race for a cause that was near to your heart?
When you set out to run and PR, do you?

I do run for health...but I am NO runner. So proud of you! Toying with the idea of maybe doing a race one day, but I would seriously need to train first like you do :)
This inspires me and makes me want to run! I run on my own, but have never ran a marathon or half or any kind whatsoever. Maybe I should!

I would LOVE to run a race with you!! I want to come up to NYC and find a race to do with you, it annoys me that they all sell out SO quickly....
And oh my goodness, that would be AWESOME if you got an entry for 2012, that would be your first marathon and what a crazy experience to have for your first, I'm jealous!! Can't wait to hear if it works out.
I'm training for my first half marathon in June! But I'm definitely stuck more around the 5K length! Good luck in your runs!
