If any of you read my post over on Meghan's blog, then you would know that I don't make multiple New Year's resolutions. I make just one: be happy. But as I have looked back on 2011 and thought about my favorite moments, I want to set some new goals for the year on top of my yearly lists.
I have come to terms with the fact that I won't ever fully complete my lists, but at least I get to cross the majority off and that's more than I can say I used to do. So here are my 2012 goals:
- Be happy.
- Relax more. (The house doesn't have to be spotless. The bed doesn't have to be made perfectly every day. It's okay to just sit on the couch.)
- Write when I feel inspired, even if this means getting out of bed at 2AM.
- Read at least one book a month.
- Cook a new recipe once a month.
- Save money. Set a goal amount per month to put away, no matter what.
- No shop months. One per quarter (January, May, July, October)
- Give once a month. Even if it's a dollar at the check out for a charity or an extra generous tip.
I wanted to be realistic with my goals and not set my sights too high. Posting my goals will hold me accountable. So now it's time to hit up the library, pick some recipes, and not shop this month... Have you set goals for the new year? What are you aiming for?

I love the idea of a no shop month!
I posted some goals of my mine yesterday but they were goals for doing things around the house. I guess I should stop and think about me and what goals I can make for a better me too. I just feel like I have so much to do every day with my girls, house, and my business that I don't have time or energy to stop and think about myself, typical mom I suppose.
One of my goals is to read a book per moth, too!
I have a bad habit of re-reading books that I've already read so I'm challenging myself to read 12 new books :)

These are some great goals Amanda. I love the cook a one new recipe a month! I need to start trying all the million recipes on my pin boards! And my wallet could seriously benefit from no shopping months!
Love the goal to write more. I started this blog as a way to spark my creativity, but I'd love to try my hand at writing. =)

I love all of your goals, I think posting them will help hold us all accountable this year. good luck!:)
I love the "relax more" one- I am so guilty of stressing myself out over such silly things, and I'm realizing it's not worth it anymore!! Good luck with all your 2012 goals!
Good luck!
I need no shop months! I've been resisting the urge to buy from all these post-holiday sales all week - it's so hard!

No shop months sound horrible hahaha! I can't do it- I've already Started collecting my new summer wardrobe! Best of luck girlie heehee! :)
I love your take on the no shop months! I am trying really hard not to spend money, and that is such a manageable way to do so!
The no shop month is SUCH a good idea (and should help with the save money goal). Great, simple, realistic goals Amanda!!
Good goals! A not shop month sounds so hard! But it really is a brilliant idea... I hope you can follow through with all that you've aimed for!
i too am trying to be realistic with my goals, but still challenge myself. i've been stuggling with coming up with a good balance. love your list.
I really need to set away money each month and have no spending months. I am definitely going to add those to my goals! xo
I definitely second you on the saving money! We are trying to pay off our student loans in 3 years. Quite a feat if you saw the bills! But we keep getting stingier and stingier to make it happen.
im doing a no shopping month right now. i do it yearly, but love your quarterly idea.
A no shop month is so smart! It would be so hard fo rme though!!!
I think you will knock these goals out of the park!
I'm with yo on the relax more. Sigh...need to get on that.
I think I'm going to copy your "try one new recipe a month" goal. We always end up eating the same meals every week it seems, and I need to venture out more in the kitchen.
The "no shop" months are a great idea too, if you really want something you can think about it for a whole month so you know you really need/want it!
Those sound like great resolutions.
A no shop month is a great idea. I might have to steal it!
Love your resolutions! The no shop month may be one I'll have to try :)
I too want to read more. I began a book on January 1st and I'm 50%. I know I've been reading a lot but the book is just really good. Nice goals you have.
Great goals, I also need to save more!
You are so cool! I love the no shop month! Bravo, girlie, bravo!
FABULOUS list!!
These are great...especially the giving one. I'll need to adopt that one too ;)
What a great list!
great goals! like that you made them specific, with a certai number. it helps greatly in keeping them!
i love your second point! i have found that to be sooo true since getting married. sometimes i have the leave the dishes and the laundry and the mess and just spend time with husband. i never regret time we spend making memories together.
xoxo
The "relax more" one really resonates with me.....I sometimes think that it's ridiculous how I have to force myself to relax, but it's true, I do!
