#7 Learn to cook buffalo chicken

Because M's favorite food is buffalo chicken, I decided that I would learn how to cook his favorite food. So I scoured the Internet, blogs, even asked blog friends for a recipe. Ultimately, I found a recipe via Pinterest.
This led me to eat at allie's, which is an awesome blog filled with tons of delicious recipes. She adapted her recipe from a Martha Stewart recipe. And I actually only partially followed Allie's recipe. I ended up having to supplement the buttermilk with a concoction that my dad whipped up for me.
I didn't type up the recipe, nor did I take pictures as I cooked these because I had no idea how they were going to turn out, but the ultimate verdict, and best compliment I've ever gotten, came from M. Lover and taster of all sorts of buffalo chicken, M stated that this is some of the best buffalo chicken he's ever had. (Go me!)
Next time that we make it, I'll be sure to take pictures, and type up the recipe for you all to try. Another thing crossed off my list!

My 7 Links

On Sunday after M left, I started to read some blogs to distract me from the fact that I missed him already. And to my pleasant surprise, the wonderful Leigh from All You Need is Love tagged me for the favorite 7 posts.

The details mean I link to a post of my own for each of the categories:
  • Your most beautiful post
  • Your most popular post
  • Your most controversial post
  • Your most helpful post
  • A post whose success surprised you
  • A post you feel didn’t get the attention it deserved
  • The post that you are most proud of

I feel like I haven't written quite enough posts to fall into all of these categories yet, but I will give it my best shot! Then I get to nominate five bloggers to share their 7 links, and then the chain continues. Ready?

Most Beautiful Post: Happy Birthday, Mom! This was a small tribute to how much I appreciate and look up to my mom.

Most Popular Post: Lists Galore Technically this is not a post, however I have gotten so many views of this and comments, I thought I would consider it my most popular. I'm currently working on my 24 Before 24 list.

Most Helpful Post:  #BeGrateful This was a short post that actually linked to another blogger's post that reminded me about how important it is to be grateful.

Surprisingly Successful Post: Simple Girl, Simple Hair I never would have thought that blogging about my haircut would get me so many pageviews!

Didn't Get the Attention it Deserved Post: Let's Make a Change This post is about another blogger who is raising money for scholarships to help students pay for their first year of college. It's a cause dear to her heart, and I really hope that more people signed up and are helping to raise money.

Most Proud of Post: NYRR Mini 10K 2011 I guess this could be the post I'm most proud of...for now. Running the race and having M and family there to support me made me feel so proud. So getting to share that with the blog world only added to how good the race made me feel.

For this award, I'm nominating:

If you've been nominated, I'd love for you to play along! And if you haven't already, go check out their blogs. Otherwise, have a very happy Thursday and go enter my Book-It-Forward Giveaway!

Here are my latest dress desires on Pinterest. (I chose one in every color of the rainbow!) Go link up with the Michelle at The Vintage Apple for "Oh How Pinteresting!" Wednesday!

Book-It-Forward Giveaway!

So it's time for another giveaway! I thought it would be fun to start giving away books that I have read because I'm kind of a reading dork. Anywho, Kori, over at Blonde Episodes, wrote her very first book called Murder on the Boulevard. She's selling it on Amazon right now (there's paperback and a Kindle version).
My copy of Kori's book
I finished reading it a few weeks ago and thought that I would book-it-forward to one of my fabulous blog friends! (Don't you love that term?) I do want to note this, the book is slightly damaged! The little princess Giada has been teething and used her tiny needle teeth to poke holes in parts of the cover. So I'm sorry in advance for the book not being in pristine condition.

Note the tiny holes on the cover

Sweaty Confessional

Can this heat go away yet? I really shouldn't complain about it because I prefer to be hot rather than cold, but even with air conditioning blasting, I feel like I keep sweating. So it's time for another confessional because somehow it's already Monday. Even though Rissy doesn't have a link up posted, I'm still going to do some confessions...

I confess that I crossed another item off of my list this weekend. Stay tuned for the recap soon!

I confess that I'm so grateful for fun nights out with M and our friends.
M and I in the city
I confess that my appreciation for air conditioning has increased significantly throughout this heat wave.

I confess that I made key lime pie for the first time on Friday and surprised myself with how good it turned out.
Homemade Key Lime Pie
I confess that I want a pair of these running shoes. Don't you, Neon Blonde Runner?
Saw these at my favorite running store over the weekend
What do you confess this week?

A Running Win!

Guess what? I won another blog giveaway! Tiffany, of Teach.Run.Love, was having a blog themed giveaway. There were three parts, and one of them was for "run." So I entered...and won! Can you tell I'm excited? No? Are you sure? 'Cuz I am!!!
Anyways, I came home from my long run last week to find a fabulous package waiting for me.
I don't know why this picture is doing this weird thing.
And look at all the fantastic goodies that were inside.

These may look some simple fun running accessories, however, as a runner, I have not tried several of these products. The well known GU has never passed through my lips. And I heard lots of hype about it. I can't wait to try it on my next long run.
Of course, a magazine always make for a fun read. I just wanted to send a huge thank you to the fantastic Tiffany! If you haven't already, go check out her blog!

Five on Friday

Today, on this overly hot and humid day, I am linking up with one of my favorite Connecticut bloggers, Kat from Living like the Kings. She shared her five favorites, and now I'm going to share mine. Go link up to share yours too!

Favorite cuisine: If candy and/or dessert was a cuisine, I would pick that. But because it's not, Italian, for sure!

Favorite Vacation: Vacation? What are those? I don't think I have a favorite, but I guess I could say my trip to Puerto Rico with my mom.

Favorite hobby: Can running be considered a hobby? If not, I guess thrift shopping. I don't do it as often as I would like, but I love the thrill of a deal, especially when my mom and I go to a great local Goodwill.

Favorite holiday tradition: I had the answer before I even finished reading that one. Christmas Eve dinner! Every year, for as long as I can remember, we spend the afternoon making homemade pasta and homemade marinara at my Uncle's house. There's just something about family and Italian food that makes me so genuinely happy.

Favorite “the-baby’s-asleep-the-chores-are-done-now-what-shall-I-do” pastime: Well, I don't have a baby, but when I do have a free minute, I would probably say sleeping, or just lounging around with M.

What are your favorites? Go link up with Kat!

Thankful Thursday

I originally planned on writing a different post today, but when perusing my dashboard, I saw lovely Rebecca's post over at Southern Charm. Every Thursday, she does a link-up called "Thankful Thursday." So here are the things I'm thankful for...

I am thankful that last night I got a really good run in, and I will get another good run in tonight.

I am thankful for my wonderful family, especially my parents and sister who are supportive without even knowing it.

I am thankful for M. Sometimes the 200 miles between us gets to me, but then I realize how grateful I am that I do get to see him almost every weekend.

I am thankful for living so close to Manhattan and can't wait for a fun night out on Saturday.

Last, but not least, I am thankful for this blog. I never knew how much I could love blogging and how many wonderful, amazing women I could meet and grow to become friends with.

What are you thankful for today? Go link up with Rebecca!

Randomly Pinteresting

I wanted to do a themed post on my favorites, but there are too many random things that I'm loving on Pinterest recently. Has anyone been sticking with one thing that they constantly pin? Because mine seems to be food...

Link up with the fabulous Michelle over at The Vintage Apple to share your favorites on Pinterest!

I want to wear this dress...

...while reading wonderful quotes about love like this...

...after eating this meal!

My First "Grown Up" Wedding

Let me preface this post that I do not consider myself a grown up. Yes, I have a grown up job and maintain a semi-grown up life, however, I still feel very young. I also have only been to two other weddings in my life, and both were family members getting remarried. So let's recap my very first "grown up" wedding.
The Best Boyfriend in the world
Saturday morning, I took almost an hour and a half to get ready. I took all of your suggestions and curled my locks. (Sorry forgot to take a picture of my hair.) Oh and I burned my neck. So I went to a lovely Catholic wedding with a hickey, I mean curling iron burn.
The beautiful church
The wedding ceremony was at Providence College in a beautiful chapel. The service was a little long, but beautiful none the less.

After the wedding, M's phone navigated us back to his hometown through Providence, so I finally got a good picture of the capitol building that makes me happy every time I drive past it on the highway.

I had to take the shoes off in between ceremony and reception.

We hung out at his parents' house for a bit before heading over to the wedding reception at Barker Tavern. It was beautiful. They had a beach themed wedding, and each of the tables had a different place in the groom's hometown.

Of course the bride looked beautiful. There she is standing with her mom while her new hubby had his mother and son dance.
Bride and groom dancing the night away
I really enjoyed my first grown up wedding. I think I have a much greater understanding and appreciation for the whole wedding process and the reasons two people get married. And it all comes down to a simple thing called love. Congratulations to the bride and groom!

P.S. Today is my red velvet lovin' and super sweet friend's birthday! Bree blogs over at .simply.girly. Go wish her a very happy day!

Simple Girl Confession

I confess that I had a fantastic weekend with M. (And I fall in love with him more every day.) Here's a sneak peak of us all dressed up for the wedding.
Sorry, you can't see the shoes :(
I confess that I need to start hustling loose change to fill my fabulous Change 4 Change jars.

I confess that I will be drinking ginger ale all day long.

And I confess that I'm ready for Friday, and it's only Monday morning. Head on over to Rissy's blog and link up!

Five on Friday

YAY! It's Friday! And you know what that means? I get to see M! But it also means that I will be sharing five random things...

1. A GINORMOUS thank you to everyone who shared their opinions on my questions yesterday. Your responses were so helpful, but now I need to start organizing my labels (and plan my next giveaway).

2. Tomorrow, M and I are going to the wedding. So I'll be wearing this dress and these shoes. I doubt my feet will last the whole time in them, and I still haven't decided on my hair. Should I curl it and put it up like this?
Summer 2008 - The first successful curling of my hair!
3. I'm back on my apple sauce kick as an afternoon snack. It always weirded me out when I was younger, but now I love it.

4. Want to cry a couple tears of joy? Yesterday, while catching up on Ashley's blog, Lemon and Lavender, I came across this post. It's a wonderful story of a couple getting engaged and amazing photographs of the whole moment. Fact: I'm a hopeless romantic.

5. And to continue with my romantic mood, check out this movie trailer that I saw over on Dana's blog, Now You're My Whole Life.

Simple Girl Bloggin' Questions

So I have a running list of questions, and I wanted to reach out to my fellow bloggers to find out what you think and what your answers are to them. Ready?

What would be an awesome blog giveaway?
I feel like I see great giveaways all the time, and then some that I don't take the time to enter. What makes you want to enter a giveaway? Is it the appeal of winning? Or the actual items? (I'll be doing another giveaway very soon!)

What's the point or use of having the labels on your blog? Do you ever click on your blog friends' labels?
I rarely click on the labels shown on the sides of blogs, and I was wondering if you all took the time to click or use them.

Vlog: do or don't?
Lots of people are now "vlogging." I see the appeal of it, but how many vlogs do you actually take the time to devote all your attention to? Is once a month enough? Once a week? Every day? Never? Just curious...

That's all for now, and I can't wait to hear your responses!

Oh How Pinteresting Desserts

It's Wednesday already? Oh snap, am I happy about that! So let's jump right into Michelle's "Oh How Pinteresting!" Wednesday!

When I finally take the time out of my busy schedule, I will be sure to start whipping up some of these yummies.

I'll start with these s'mores bars...

...then bake these chocolate chip cookies...

...then attempt at making some macarons...

...and probably some key lime popsicles for good measure.

What of these things would you whip up when in the baking mood?

P.S. You can follow me on Pinterest by clicking here!

I (kind of) Won Popsicles!

So a of couple weeks ago, I won an awesome giveaway from Sherri Lynn of life of a wife. Thank you so much, Sherri Lynn!
New popsicle shapes and recipe book!
Anyways, I finally used the popsicle shape last week after an early morning at boot camp and came up with my own popsicle recipe (I didn't have any of the ingredients needed for the book's recipes). If you like the taste of fall, you will love these popsicles!

Yield: 4 small popsicles

  • 1 apple (I used McIntosh.)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons water
  1. Slice apple (you can leave the skin on).
  2. Combine all ingredients in a blender and pulse until fully blended.
  3. Put mixture into forms for popsicles, then place in freezer for at least 8 hours.
  4. Take out, and enjoy!

#2 Ride a big roller coaster

On Saturday, M and I got up bright and early to head to Six Flags New England. On my list of 24 Before 24 (and 23 Before 23), I wanted to ride a big roller coaster. The last time I rode a "big roller coaster" was Space Mountain in Disney World when I was much younger.
It wasn't that specific time, but somehow I developed a fear of roller coasters. In order to conquer that fear, I put it on my list. And guess who went on one of the biggest roller coasters in the country? This simple girl!
I am not going to lie, but I had my eyes closed the majority of the ride because I was so terrified. I stepped off the ride with shaking hands and unsure if I would ever get on another one. But I did. It was a great day of hot weather, sunshine, long lines, but, most importantly, great company. Another thing crossed off, and another great memory.

Let's Make a Change

Ashley of The Shine Project has created an incredible project: Change for Change. This very simple, yet powerful project has a goal for 100 bloggers to each raise $100 by September 30, 2011.
All of the money will be put into The Shine Project Scholarship Fund to help 4 high school students pay for their first year of college. This is a cause near and dear to her heart, and anything that we can contribute to help another blogger friend is very much appreciated!

Do you want to be one of those 100 bloggers? I hope so!

Here's what you have to do:
Email Ashley at
She'll send over images that you can print out and tape to your jars.
Collect any and all change you can find!
It's as simple as that, and I know we can do it!

I'll be following up with lots of pictures of all the jars that I have decorated to be placed in my home, office, friend's and family's homes and offices. Head on over to Ashley's Change for Change to learn even more!

Check out The Shine Project video...

'Merican Weekend

K & L made delicious cupcakes!
As you know, I headed up to Boston on Friday night. After nearly 5 hours in the car, I couldn't wait to stretch my legs. We had a great night hanging out with M's friends and dancing at a near by bar.
Saturday, we headed back to his hometown to spend time with some of his other good friends. Unfortunately, the weather was overcast, but we still enjoyed really good food. (Sorry no pictures. I failed at taking any pictures until Sunday night.)
Sunday, the weather was crappy again, so I went for a short run before M and I went shopping and had a lunch date. I got a dress to wear to a wedding that we're going to in two weeks. Yes, the dress will be worn with my new Kate Spade shoes. (I'll be sure to take pictures of us all dressed up.)
Sunday night, we had an all American evening. We were down on the water in a beautiful beach house. There were lots of fireworks, bon fires, live music, and laughter. I really love spending time with M's roommates (J & K). Not only do I miss M when I leave now, but I miss them too.
I hope everyone has been having a great week and enjoyed their holiday weekends. TGIT (Thank Goodness It's Thursday).
